Designing for a collective of artists
01 Poster Design
02 Illustration
03 Collage
I designed a small collection of posters for various events at Room Project - a safe space in Detroit, MI for artists and writers to gather, share, and learn new ideas and concepts.
The first one here is for a poetry workshop. The workshop was about bringing writers and creatives together to use music to fuel words into poetry. I wanted to design something that would incorporate that marriage of poetry and music while being soft and inviting. The color palette is made up of muted pinks and reds with brush strokes and paper textures. The lines and shapes are soft and curvy.
This poster was designed for an event in which food was thoughtfully tasted and experienced, considering the five senses and put into words, playing the role of food critic. I, of course, wanted to incorporate food into the design. Collage not only met the needs of the client, but pointed to the different flavors and tasting notes you can pull out of food. The colors are soft and muted with a pop of yellow, just like biting into a strawberry - subtle and fresh with a twist of sweetness and a little hint of sour.
This poster was created for a recurring event for Detroit actors and playwrights to share and discuss their work. This event was all about growing as an artist among other creatives. I illustrated blossoming flowers to symbolize this growth. The colors are dark and muted. Imagery is made with soft and imperfect lines and strokes with pops of red.
This poster was designed for a poetry performance. The theme was "wild flower" so I paired each poet's favorite flower with their portrait which was composed in such a way that it looked like a polaroid taped onto the poster with washi tape. The blurry gradient orange shape in the background represents the blazing sun, while still being gentle and letting the rest of the elements shine.
